Text Submissions

There are no restrictions on subject matter, theme or style, but it is suggested that no more than 3 pieces of original work be submitted at one time.

Submissions should be in a single Word document, attached to an email to:

shotsthemagazine@yahoo.co.uk

Work for consideration should be typed in Times New Roman, with the title of the piece(s) and author’s name clearly marked on each page (usually easiest to put this in a header or footer)

A cover email should be sent with the attached Microsoft Word document, again, this should have the author’s name and title(s) of the piece(s) submitted.

Please note other formats will be sent back!!!

We try to keep the layout as you submit it, so if your poem is in an unusual layout, we will do our best to keep it that way!

An email will be sent to you confirming your submission. This is not a guarantee that all or part of the work submitted will be published in the next issue. we welcome work from all writers, and student writers!

Decisions on what work will go into the magazine are generally made in line with the direction of the current edition and – of course – space available!

Pictorial Submissions

Photographs or artwork may accompany a short story or a poem.

If they are to be printed alongside a poem or short story, please make this clear in the email.

All artwork/photographs will be printed in black and white to keep printing costs down. If you have colour artwork but are happy for it to be printed in black and white, just send the colour version, we can do the rest for you.

We ask that only the photographer or artist submit their work, we do not accept ANY third party submissions. Also, any person that can be identified in the picture must have given their permission for the picture to be published.

A cover email should be sent with the attached Word document containing the picture(s), both should have the author’s name and titles of the pieces submitted

An automated email will be sent to you confirming your submission. This is not a guarantee that all or part of the work submitted will be published in the next issue; special consideration is given to students of the OU’s writing courses, but we welcome work from all writers, and student writers!

Please Note:

NO EDITING is done on submitted work, so please check thoroughly before sending your work in

Work submitted after the deadline will be held over until the next edition

Permission for a photograph to be taken is NOT permission for the photograph to be printed. Please check with any person(s) in photographs (that you submit to us) that they are happy to have the photograph printed

The rights to all work published remains with the author

You are giving us permission to:

  • Print in the format (font/ink colour/layout/position within the magazine) of our choice, although we will always do our best to accommodate unusual layouts for poetry

  • Use part or whole of the work on the blog spot as a ‘Taster’ for readers

A list of contributing authors for each edition will be published on the SHOTS blog spot.

We ask that if your work is accepted for publication, that you buy one copy of the edition with your work in to help us cover the printing costs (of course, generous donations are also always welcome!)

PLEASE REMEMBER TO CHECK YOUR WORK BEFORE SUBMITTING!
